English and handwriting are where first-generation learners lose confidence first. The fix is unglamorous: get good workbooks into their hands, then make sure teachers use them.
Government school children in our districts often have textbooks but no practice material. Handwriting and English grammar are precisely the skills that decide whether a child can keep up in higher classes.
