Ujjwala Foundation

From her hands to her own income

She knows how to make.

She doesn't always know how to make a living from it.

And that difference can change a life.

A Ujjwala Foundation initiative helping women move from practical skills toward enterprise, markets and income.

The drawing stops before it is finished

Then what?

  • Who will buy it?
  • What should she charge?
  • How will she find customers?
  • How will she tell people?
  • How will she manage the money?
  • How will she begin again if the first attempt doesn't work?

A skill can be real.
An opportunity can still be missing.

Ordinary life

  • A rice measure levelled twice.
  • A school bag by the door.
  • A strip of tablets, three left.
  • A phone charging on the windowsill.
  • A market bag folded into a pocket.
  • A notebook with a column of small numbers.
  • She measures.
  • She remembers.
  • She calculates.
  • She postpones.
  • She tries to make one rupee stretch further.

When every rupee has a job, there is very little left for possibility.

Sometimes poverty doesn't look like having nothing.

It looks like postponing

  • A plan postponed.
  • A purchase postponed.
  • A course postponed.
  • A business idea postponed.
  • A decision postponed.
  • A dream postponed.

Until “later”
starts to feel normal.

She isn't asking for a different life. She is asking for more room in this one.

  • Room to earn.
  • Room to decide.
  • Room to save.
  • Room to try.
  • Room to plan.
  • Room to contribute.

Room to say: “I can take care of this.”

Because income is more than money.

  • Choice
  • Confidence
  • Planning
  • Dignity
  • Resilience
When someone can earn, even imperfectly and gradually, income can create room for choices that were previously difficult.

Money can buy many things.
Sometimes what it really buys is room.

So what is missing?

Not necessarily the skill. Not necessarily the willingness. Sometimes:

  • Access
  • Guidance
  • Customers
  • Marketing
  • Business knowledge
  • Confidence
  • A place to start

The gap is not always talent. Sometimes it is the path between talent and opportunity.

Our role

We want to help build that path.

  1. 01Identify
  2. 02Understand
  3. 03Train
  4. 04Build
  5. 05Create
  6. 06Market
  7. 07Sell
  8. 08Earn
  9. 09Grow

Teaching a skill is not enough. She also needs to understand the money around it.

  • Cost
  • Price
  • Margin
  • Cash flow
  • Saving
  • Credit
  • Debt
  • Banking
  • Digital payments

Know what it costs.
Know what it is worth.
Know what comes next.

What if her skill could become something people buy?

  • Skill
  • Idea
  • Product / service
  • Price
  • Presentation
  • Market
  • Customer

That is where training becomes possibility.

“I'll take one.”

The first customer. The first sale.

The first proof that what she can do can also create value.

  • Her hand
  • Customer hand
  • Income

The first sale may be small.
What it can begin is not.

This is where you come in.

She brings the willingness.

She brings the effort.

She brings the skill.

Ujjwala aims to build support around that effort.

Your contribution helps make that support possible.

She brings the will.
Ujjwala builds the path.
You help make the path possible.

Your gift helps build what comes after training.

  1. Training

Practical instruction in a skill she can actually use.

  2. Practice

Repetition until the work is consistent enough to sell.

  3. Business knowledge

    Cost, price, margin, records, payments.

  4. Product development

Turning a skill into something with a shape and a price.

  5. Marketing

How the work is described, photographed and shown.

  6. Customer discovery

Finding the people who would actually buy it.

  7. Sales support

Help with the first transactions and what follows them.

  8. Mentorship

Someone to call when the first attempt doesn't work.

  9. Market access

Routes to buyers beyond her own street.

How your support is used →

Don't just fund the classroom.Fund the road after it.

  • Because learning means more when there is a way to use it.
  • A product means more when there is someone to buy it.
  • A business idea means more when there is a way to test it.
  • And an earning opportunity means more when it can continue.

  • Learning takes time.
  • Confidence takes time.
  • Customers take time.

Ujjwala Market

A social-enterprise marketplace being developed to help eligible products from supported women and community enterprises reach customers.

A purchase is a commercial transaction, not a donation.

What happens after the first sale?

  • First sale.
  • Second customer.
  • Better product.
  • Better pricing.
  • More confidence.

  • Potentially another woman.

The goal is not one moment.
The goal is a path that can keep going.

Will every woman start a business?

No. Participants may follow different pathways depending on their skills, interests, circumstances and available opportunities. Some may pursue enterprise, some may seek employment, and others may require a different next step.

What does my donation pay for?

Your contribution may support approved program costs such as training, materials, business capability, product development, marketing, market access, mentoring and related implementation costs, according to the program budget.

Can I give monthly?

Yes. Monthly giving is available through the recurring payment methods currently enabled for the Foundation.

Can I choose what my monthly gift supports?
