Program · Women
A ledger. A collective. A voice at the panchayat.
The problem
Only 3% of rural women in our districts have a bank account in their own name. Domestic violence is under-reported. Only 12 of every 500 panchayat seats are contested by first-time women.
Our approach
184 self-help groups of 10–15 women each, meeting weekly, saving ₹50 per member, revolving credit internally.
12-week bank-account-to-business-loan curriculum, taught by women who graduated the year before.
A visiting lawyer, one district a month, for domestic violence, land-title, and pension cases.
36 women trained for panchayat elections — 22 have won.
From the field

A life changed
"I was afraid to speak. Today I chair the gram sabha."
Kavitha was in our first fellowship cohort in 2022. She contested and won the sarpanch seat in 2024. Her first act: a resolution mandating girls' toilets in every school in her panchayat.
